Byfield National Park
Byfield Conservation Park, Nine Mile Beach, Five Rocks, Freshwater Creek,
Stockyard Point and Waterpark Point
Byfield National Park is a large park covering the area north of Corio Bay to the Shoalwater Bay military reserve with its eastern edge being Keppel Bay and is almost entirely old sand dunes covered with low coastal scrub and heath, access is by four wheel drive only. The National Park has several camping grounds, fine ocean beaches, largely unspoilt heathland and the escapist paradise of Stockyard Point township. The park is l2km east of Waterpark Creek through Byfield State Forest as you can see in the photo below a four-wheel drive is necessary throughout the park. The 15km soft sand track from the park entrance to the coast may take more than one hour.
Access
The sandy track to nine mile beach passes through unspoilt coastal heath covering the ancient dunes, careful driving is necessary to avoid accidents and damage to the track.
Open woodland just before entering the sandy section of the access track, here we are reducing tyre pressures to improve driving and reduce damage to the track.
